What Are Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS)?
Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) are voluntary standards used by investment managers worldwide to ensure full disclosure and fair representation of investment performance. GIPS are a set of standardized ethical principles that guide investment firms on how to calculate and present their investment results. Compliance with GIPS is voluntary, but adds credibility to investment firms, especially in international markets. The forerunner of GIPS was the AIMR–PPS, created in 1987. The most recent edition of GIPS was released on June 30, 2019, and goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2020. They are currently used in more than 40 markets globally and 84 of the top 100 asset management firms worldwide claim compliance with GIPS standards. 5c61
