A reported 10,000 turned up to see the ICIS (Isthmian) League title decider between 1st placed Yeovil and 2nd placed Enfield on 25th March 1997. The game kicked off around 20 minutes late as a reputed 2,000 were locked out. Those still finding their place may have missed early goals from Micky Engwell and Paul Turner as Yeovil led by player/manager Graham Roberts took an early 2-0 lead. Enfield levelled the scores by half time with two goals from Paul Moran, the first a very scrappy affair and the second a debatable penalty 'won' by Endersby. There were a few chances in the second half but no further goals were added and the score remained 2-2. Yeovil took a psychological edge from this result as Enfield faded and the Glovers won the division with 101 points, six points clear of Enfield who were not able to replicate their form of this season and were never promoted back to the Conference, folding in 2007 a few years after selling its Southbury Road ground.
