I over-volted the 500 watt brushed DC motor from 24v to 36v. Did it make a big difference? I built this homemade front wheel drive ebike with a 24v 500 watt brushed DC motor, This is a cheap 50kmh 31Mph ebike build. The original build video is on my channel, it used a 410 chain and bicycle gears. Results after overvolting I ran the bike at 24v with the 410 chain and gears to a top speed of about 20mph 32kmh on flat ground. I than overvolted from 24v to 36v 1000 watt controller with the same gears and only gained a few more mph, and the controller / motor got really hot. That wasn't good enough so I decided to remove the bicycle 410 gears and chain and install a 25H large drive sprocket, 25H pinion and chain, the motor originally came with a 25H pinion. I than ran a max speed test and the results were way better, on flat ground I was able to hit 31 mph 51 kph and the motor / controller was much cooler. The idea of this video is to show a cost friendly homemade electric bicycle, without removing the bikes original speeds and no welding of freewheel sprocket on rear hub. Where I'm located hub motors are way more expensive than chain drive motors. This video is just for entertainment purposes, I don't recommend overvolting any ebike or building these projects. This is not a BLDC motor so I haven't tried this with a brushless motor yet but lots of people are doing this, I would only increase by 12v. I'm using lead acid batteries they are much more forgiving if you end up overloading than lithium ion. Because I installed a larger drive sprocket it took a lot of load off the motor, if I hadn't done this the motor would have burned out because it was getting very hot and had a smell. I constantly monitor the temperature of the controller, motor and batteries this is very important, fans could also be added.
