Wish you had a makeup artist at your beck and call? These makeup tutorials are the next best thing. In this video, makeup artist-to-the-stars Patricia Longo teaches you how to apply face powder expertly. Hi I'm Patricia Longo and I'm a celebrity makeup artist. I've worked with models from Sports Illustrated, like Brooklyn Decker and Julie Henderson, to Alec Baldwin at 30 Rock. All those things that experts do that the average person doesn't know how to do, we'll learn how to do it on these videos. So there are two types of powder you can use. There's the press powder which is a sheer press powder, or you can use a setting powder which is a loose powder. Now it all depends on which one is easier for you. A lot of people have it where the press powder is a lot easier to handle. If I use a press powder on Sybella I would use this kind of brush. And what I would do is just dab on both sides of the powder onto the brush. Then what I'd do is I would just stroke down and around her cheeks, and up here on her forehead, and her T-zone. And this would be the sheer press powder. I would put it on lightly. It's just to set the foundation. And even over the eyes. Now if I decided to choose the loose powder I love the Laura Mercier's translucent loose powder. You can use this color pretty much on anyone - light skin, dark skin. But what I recommend is you put a little bit in here and take a powder brush like this, and this is a finishing brush. What a finishing brush does is, after I do all your makeup and I want the makeup to set, I take a little bit of the loose powder. That's what translucent loose powder is good for. It's at the end when you want to set all the makeup up. And I hit off a little bit of the excess. So I would just circle around her face very lightly. It just finishes off the makeup. You'll see the brushes are lightly touching her skin. Lightly, lightly, lightly so if you mess up it won't be a problem. You never mess up with this kind of brush because it just touches, touches, touches very lightly. I mean even if you have a heavy hand you still won't mess up. And that's how you put on powder.
