Mass of Joy and Peace by Tony Alonso (Full Mass Setting w/. New Tenth Anniversary Parts)

Welcome to RC Liturgy and Service Music, your home for all things Catholic and all things Music! We compile all the necessary resources in one place for your convenience. Please consider subscribing to see more of our content. Mass of Joy and Peace by composer Tony Alonso is published GIA Publications, Inc after the revision of the Roman Missal in 2010. GIA describes the setting this way: "Mass of Joy and Peace weaves together gentle, melodic motifs and jubilant, lilting rhythmic patterns eliciting a sense of quiet joy and blissful peace. The use of repeated passages ensures ease of learning and quick retention for your assembly, while the comfortable ranges of the three-part voicing (SAB) make this a great choice for smaller choirs and ensembles. The graceful string and woodwind arrangements overlay a delicate beauty, further enhancing this delightful and memorable liturgical setting." In 2020, Alonso released a tenth anniversary edition to this setting. With this new edition, he wrote musical settings for all 3 forms of the Penitential Rite, a Sprinkling Rite, a through-composed Gloria, new pointed-verse forms of the Gospel Acclamations, and a complete setting of Eucharistic Prayer II. On October 31, 2016, Alonso released Joy and Peace: Eucharistic Acclamations for Holy Communion. This collection modified the previously Catholic Eucharistic Acclamations and made them accessible to many branches of Protestantism through changes in the arrangement and text. In the preface to this new work, Alonso writes "As we live into the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, I pray this might provide some small opportunity to sing our Eucharist together in a shared musical language." Alonso, in conjunction with GIA Publications, Inc., published this work on Reformation Day, a day that is blatantly disrespectful and, in some cases, offensive to Catholics. Find this setting in the following hymnals offered by GIA: Gather 4, Gather 3, and Ritualsong 2. To follow along, please use the following time stamps: Kyrie Eleison (Penitential Act with Invocations) - 0:08 Sprinkling Rite (Springs of Water) - 1:31 Gloria (Glory to God) - 3:28 Gospel Acclamation (Alleluia with Sung Verse) - 6:48 Gospel Acclamation (Alleluia with Verse Tone) - 8:03 Gospel Acclamation (Lenten Gospel Acclamation w./ Sung Verse) - 9:00 Gospel Acclamation (Lenten Gospel Acclamation w./ Verse Tone) - 10:14 General Intercessions (Prayer of the Faithful) - 11:14 Preface Dialogue - 13:38 Preface - 14:03 Sanctus (Holy) - 15:31 Eucharistic Prayer II (Pre-Consecrationem) - 16:31 Memorial Acclamation A - 18:42 Memorial Acclamation B - 19:08 Memorial Acclamation C - 19:37 Eucharistic Prayer II (Post-Consecrationem) - 20:03 Doxology - 21:38 Great Amen - 21:57 Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) - 22:27 Please Note: There are no professional recordings of Penitential Act Form A, Penitential Act Form B, Gloria (Through Composed), and Pointed-Verse Gospel Acclamations.
