We've arrived! After a 12-hour drive from Utah, I've brought the family to Cascade Locks, and let me tell you, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking! As we shake off the long journey and eagerly anticipate the start of the 2024 Gorge Waterfalls 100k, I couldn't resist taking the GS:PGH shoes out for a spin in their terrain of origin. To my surprise, I found myself actually enjoying these shoes for the first time. As I tackled the downhill sections, I couldn't help but appreciate the wider base underfoot, which provided stability on the soft ground. It felt akin to skiing powder—just as you wouldn't want skinny skis in deep, soft powder, having big fatboys underfoot keeps you on top of everything. That's exactly what these shoes offer on soft ground: stability and confidence, thanks to their wider base and stiff foam. As I soak in the excitement of being surrounded by friends and fellow racers, I can't help but feel grateful to be here. Tomorrow's race promises to be an exhilarating experience, and I can hardly wait to hit the trails.
