Learning how to get the right results in our concrete patio adventure. The John Deere 1025r continues to be the work horse. The concrete mix I am using is 1, 94 pound bag of portland cement which fills 2, 5 gallon buckets. Using the 1, 2, 3, mixing method, I add 4 buckets (2:1) of sand and 6 buckets (3:1) of #57 granite. Add water until the correct consistency is obtained. This should yield 4.5 cubic feet of concrete. there is 27 cu ft in one cubic yard. With this mixer I am using, it will take 6 of these loads to fill 1 cu yd. This project will need 9 cu yds of concrete. Using the buckets are a very easy way to stay consistent with the mixing, however heaving those full buckets into the mixed wears you out quick. And with the high temperatures you have to move quick.
