Today we're taking SimWorks Studios brand-new Vans RV-8 up for a fun flight around Monument Valley. It’s an airplane I’ve been anticipating ever since its announcement, as I’ve been a fan of SWS’s RV-10 & RV-14 for a long time but prefer the seat arrangement of the RV-8. In short it was worth the wait, the RV-8 is fantastic. And for the prize an absolute steal. As it includes 8 variants. The tricycle gear variant and the taildragger variant, both with a glass or classic panel and each of those with a two blade or three blade propeller. The visual model is stunning. The sounds are fantastic and vary between the two and three bladed prop variants. The smoke system is the best one I’ve seen in MSFS, probably in any sim, and has little to no effect on the fps. The flight model feels heavier and more stable than I expected but is very enjoyable and has been tested and approved by real RV-8 pilots. Without any crosswind the takeoff is very easy, with a crosswind you need to react or counteract it more precisely than I did in the video, as I almost went off the side of the runway. The landing usually is also very manageable, but I messed that up completely this time. But as you can see the undercarriage is very forgiving and absorbs even the heaviest landing, which I wanted to demonstrate of course…cough, cough. A regular viewer, BJM62, recently suggested a flight around Monument Valley at dawn or dusk. And I’m glad he did, as I had a lot of fun making this video. It’s such an iconic location and I can’t believe I had never flown there in MSFS before. I can’t wait to try out the MSFS2024 version of it, judging from the trailer and a recent livestream it’ll look incredible! Thank you BJM for the great suggestion! Thanks for watching!
