Testing shorter final drive - Grobnik 22.11.2020. Clio 197

Perfect weather conditions for driving. Ambient temp 9C, no wind. I was not driving on the limit as I was testing and getting used to the shorter final drive unit - Lap on this video is 1:47.8, (tires Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2). Conclusion: This final drive unit is not a good improvement for my car on this track. You can find more description below if you are interested. On few areas I got some gains but mostly there are negative sides. Hitting the rev limiter on few spots and needing to let go of the throttle too soon before the curve, while no point getting to higher gear due to braking zone being too close. Also getting into 6th gear after the finish line costs me a few kmh on top speed. I tried multiple laps, different gears and speeds, combinations, etc. It was possible to make even better lap time than this one with this setup, but didn't want to push it any more and hit the rev limit all the time. One option would be to move rev limit to 8000rpm or more (currently on 7800), but this is not recommended for my current engine setup and I am not willing to make any further modifications to it just to get there (too costly for not so much gains). And yes, I did gear ratio / speed calculations before I switched to shorter final drive :) but it was all so close "on paper" and I didn't want to leave it there. Instead, I decided to install it anyway and see it in practice on the track. Next time I will be having my original final drive unit installed.
