Devshayani Ekadashi falls on 12th July 2019. Chaumasa or Chaturmaas starts from this day and ends on 8th November. It is believed that lord Vishnu goes to a 4 months long sleep from this day. Some Pauranik scriptures say that Lord Vishnu in his Vaman Avtar gave King Bali a boon that he will stay with him in Patal Lok. So for 4 months during chaturmaas lord vishnu goes and stays with him till Dev Uthani ekadashi then Lord Shiva goes and stays with him till Mahashivratri and then Lord Brahma goes and stays with him from Mahashivratri till Devshayani Ekadashi. The rules for fasting on this day are similar to other Ekadashis. One should fast on this day and get the benefit. The rules of Chaumasa should also be observed for the next 4 months.
