Karnataka has been witnessing multiple landslides due to incessant rain. On July 17, seven people were killed in a landslide that occurred near Shirur in Uttara Kannada district. The National highway 66 was completely blocked following the incident. While heavy earthmoving machines have been deployed to clear debris, the relief work has slowed down due to continuous rains. In another landslide incident a car was buried under mud on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway 75 on the night of July 17. Local people rescued the passengers. There have been many reports of landslides on the Shiradi Ghat stretch of the highway. This has affected the movement of vehicles.
