Rapid or Sudden Apple Decline (RAD/SAD)

Rapid apple decline (RAD) is a mysterious syndrome affecting young, dwarf apple trees. The cause remains unknown and is likely to be a complex of factors. This webinar will discuss ongoing research into the factors that may contribute to RAD and management practices to reduce tree stress. Presented by: Tami Collum, USDA-ARS Tami Collum is a Research Plant Pathologist with the USDA, Agricultural Research Service located at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville, WV. She began her position in 2021, and is interested in developing sustainable monitoring and management practices for diseases of stone and pome fruit trees during production and after harvest. Tami received her PhD in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Maryland where her research focused on virus-plant interactions. She then joined the USDA as a postdoctoral researcher first at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station and then at the Foreign Disease Weed Science Research Unit in Frederick, MD where her research focused on diseases of fruit trees including plum pox and HLB. In her current position, a major focus is investigating rapid apple decline and developing scale-neutral management practices which she will discuss in this webinar. Hosted by UW-Madison Extension & University of Minnesota Extension as part of our Advanced Apple Production and Management Webinar series
