"I love my elderly parent but can't care for them anymore!" If you've ever said these words out loud, the words may have been quickly followed by a pang of guilt, right in the pit of your stomach. Should we take care of our elderly parents even when it might be more than we can bare or handle? This is a question that plagues many family caregivers. But there's no reason to feel guilt over stopping elderly parent care or guilt over putting parent in a nursing home if that is where they will receive the proper level of care. Caregiver guilt about elderly parents often starts at the beginning of the caregiver role and continues right up to the end. But feeling guilty about stopping elderly parent care doesn't have to be your expereince.
