Developed by The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong (LSHK) in 1993, Jyutping 粵拼, sometimes spelled Jyutpin, is a romanization system for Cantonese. The formal name is The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong Cantonese Romanization Scheme. Jyutping 粵拼, literally means Cantonese spelling. For many Cantonese learners using computers, Jyutping is easier to use, and it's a great tool to learn Cantonese pronunciation. 2. Initials and Finals The Cantonese sound or syllable of every Chinese character can usually be spelled with one initial and one final, pretty much like Pinyin for Mandarin. Iniatials are consonants and finals can be simple vowels or compound with vowels plus ending consonants.
