Something different than chopping grass or maize; harvesting Miscanthus or Elephant grass. Seen here near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport where farmers grow about 100 hectare of this not very common crop. Due to its low moisture content and the large amount of annual dry mass, the Miscanthus giganteus is mainly known for its use in biomass plants. But the crop offers many more possibilities to both farmers, landscape managers, and parties with not optimally utilized land and processing industries of Biobased raw materials. So it also can be used for example stable bedding, lightweight fiber boards, paper and even sustainable concrete tiles which exist of 50% Miscanthus. The crop grows in a year to 4 meter high and doesn't need any care or any crop protecting.
