August 14th Update Conditions can change quickly and with more rain through the end of last week, the Skeena and many of its tributaries saw rapid increases in water levels August 13th & 14th, bringing levels up to or above long-term averages in those systems. While those levels may settle over the next week as the water moves through, we are happy to see some relief for migrating salmon. In particular, water temperatures have also cooled in many of the rivers to more optimal temperatures for migrating salmon (generally below 16 degrees C). SkeenaWild's Executive Director, Greg Knox, Director of Science, Micheal Price and our new fisheries biologist, Kaitlyn Yehle, discuss the ongoing concerns with Skeena salmon and steelhead, some encouraging signs from some salmon species and how warmer environmental conditions will shape future runs in the Skeena.
