Air Layer Japanese Black Pine in just 4 Months

Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) is known for being extremely difficult to air layer, some say "nearly impossible" often taking several months or more than a year to root, if at all. In this video I demonstrate a method of air layering Japanese Black Pine that has worked great for me and has resulted in 100% success in rooting over the last three years. This particular method of air layering was inspired by 'George Muranaka' and his blog, and I will provide a link to his blog below. Most of my layers are rooted enough after three to four months to be detached and survive on their own roots. Sometimes I wait a little longer to remove if the weather is warm enough. https://muranakabonsainursery.blogspo... Below I have provided some time stamps to some of the main points in the video: 0:00 Intro 0:40 Air Layering Brief Explanation 1:14 History of my Pinus 2:23 Supplies Recommended 2:50 Timing and Branch Selection 3:58 First Air Layer (Recommended Size) 9:42 Second Air Layer (Thicker Branch) 10:47 Monitoring and Progression of Layers 14:44 Removal and Winter Care 15:06 Spring Repotting 18:40 Ending plus Pinus Pics
