Volyn Dry Meal started as a volunteer project back in June 2014. Before that, we carefully analyzed the ingredients of ready-to-eat meals (MRE) in different armies of the world. As a result, several types of ready-to-eat meals were created – large, small, and a mini set for scouts. Lutsk volunteers prepared their first batch in August 2014. During the period of 2014-2017, 7.5 thousand ready-to-eat meals were made with the help of product collection at supermarkets and other sponsorship. In early March 2022, the war forced us to resume this project and involve initiative volunteers. We decided to restore the "small-size" ready-to-eat meals. During the period from March 5 to April 20, 2022, more than 7,000 sets of dry meals were collected and handed over to the front line. It is interesting to mention that the ingredients for these meals came with humanitarian aid from dozens of different countries. Therefore, a single meal can contain components from different countries. Positive feedback from the fighters on the front line was collected. Dry meals, individual diets, – a set of products developed for the military who are far away from food storage and the supply of hot food to them is impossible. Dry rations are meant to provide the human body with necessary calories and vitamins at least for one day. Quality food helps soldiers on the front line to stay in shape. Nutrition of servicemen in the field or during special missions is important to maintain the combat effectiveness of troops. The ingredients of the ready-to-eat meals are as balanced as possible in terms of their usefulness and nutrition. The weight is approximately 1 kg. The meal is designed for one day supply. It is packed in a cardboard box with a label. The top of the box is sealed in polyethylene. Most products can be eaten without heating. Additionally, the set includes a metal portable heater and dry alcohol, which allows you to make hot tea and coffee, as well as soups, oatmeal, instant noodles. The meal also includes a tablet for disinfecting water in the field. Complete set of the dry meal includes: 1. Canned meat (ham or pate) 2. Canned fish 3. Chocolate (1 bar) 4. Bars (2 pcs) – muesli and protein 5. Condensed fortified milk (stick) 6. Bread or biscuits 7. A set of dried fruits (calories, potassium, and trace elements) 8. Caramels with a sour taste (fast source of glucose) 9. Wet wipe 10. Dry napkin 11. Plastic or wooden spoon 12. Multivitamins 13. Hot Mug Soup 14. Instant vermicelli (or an alternative to mashed potatoes or oatmeal) 15. Broth cube 16. Tea – 2 sachets 17. Coffee in sticks 1 pc 18. Sugar – 5 sticks 19. Tablet for water disinfection 20. Chewing gum – 2 pcs 21. Dry alcohol – 3-5 tablets 22. Metal heater with instructions 23. Memo on disinfection and filtration of water in the field 24.
