Piano Cover: David Bowie Tribute #1 - Works from Labyrinth [1986] What a sad week we have had with the loss of David Bowie from our lives (and others of course). Several years ago, before using my "Nord Piano" and my newest "Nord Stage 2" i had uploaded a heap of piano covers using my Yamaha MO8 that I purchased in July 2008, in Sydney. Sadly, back in 2008 I was still trying to find ways to improve my videos for YouTube (quality) and when I look back on them now, the quality isn't as good as my newer videos are, for various reasons, mainly sound capturing and video related. As soon as I found out about the loss of David Bowie, i was immediately inspired to do a Labyrinth Mash-Up, and had planned on "re-covering" my older Yamaha video's on the newer Nord Stage2, however.... when it came to Labyrinth I just couldn't settle on a suitable "sound".... so... I dusted off, and rearranged my current home studio setup to see what I can do with the Yamaha (again..) and this is what I came up with. It''s been a while, but I thoroughly enjoyed this Mash-Up. Sorry, it isn't that accurate, but.. FFS, its a cover.. so it can be anything I want it to be.. Some of the tracks from Labyrinth David Bowie didn't actually sing, or they are instrumental works by Trevor Jones, but most David Bowie fans associate him to the entire soundtrack, and this is no way meant to discount the talent of Trevor Jones as without him it wouldn't be entirely possible either. 1) Underground - Opening Titles Version 2) Hallucination 3) As The Word Falls Down 4) Within You 5) Chilly Down (Basic Improv as this song has "spoken" sections that can't be played. Anyways, I just wanted to also mention that this is for my Mum (Madeline) who is a long term David Bowie mega fan, to say that she is devastated is a massive under statement and it really broke her heart hearing the sad news. I appreciate there are a lot of people out there who don't believe its possible to grieve for someone you've never met... well let me tell you, it's very much real and possible, and i guess it comes down to "how" something (especially music) can shape who you become as a person, and only a true music lover can appreciate and agree to some extent I suppose! Please let me know what you think of this cover, keeping in mind I was up until 3am doing this.. and had minimal time to practice and revise + tired eyes! :( !.
