Fun with Volume | English | Cone and Cylinder Volume comparison with Sand

In this series on cones we will see how this cone can be enclosed completely in a cylinder. Cone has the same height as the cylinder and the question is how much more does the cylinder has as compared to a cone. We will cut a sector of 120 of a circle of 10cm radius. The height of cone is 9.5cm so we cut a strip of 9.5cm height and enclose it around the cone. Wrap this strip around the cone to make a cylinder. Now the height of the cylinder is same as the cone and radius of cone is also same as cylinder. Now we will see how the volume of this cone compare with volume of cylinder. We will fill the the cone with sand and pour that in the cylinder. So we can do this 3 times and see that cylinder becomes full. So the cylinder holds 3 times the sand as a cone. Or the volume of cylinder is three times the volume of cone.
