It all started when Ariq was texting a female friend, asking if she could help plan a birthday surprise for her boyfriend. She replied that she was too busy, and Ariq jokingly responded, “Busy taking care of (her boyfriend’s name)?” Even though he quickly edited the message, she saw it, got upset, and decided to cut ties with him. Two days later, Ariq apologized on another platform, but his friend said she had lost respect for him. Although they couldn’t completely cut off contact since they were still involved in the same Student Executive Board (BEM) at their university, it was clear their relationship would likely end once their commitments were done. Three days later, Ariq was inspired to write this song, with its mellow emo sound influenced by bands like My Chemical Romance and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
