Tenure and/or promotion is not an easy task, (nor should it be). However, for some of us that task is made even more difficult by the hidden barriers placed in our pathways because of likes and dislikes, politics, and even discrimination. Throughout my entire career, I have routinely received nearly unanimous votes against granting me tenure and/or promotion at any level from my department colleagues. I survived these situations and you can as well. However, the first step is for you to recognize the signs of these barriers.
