I saw that the spindles all had quite worn centers and realized the MT2 tapers would not work that well "as is". I plan to fit the 2ch ELS from Rocketronics anyway so will have control of both axis and a fun project would be to use the cycle control to redo the taper (just plugging in the exact number for the XY travel). This should be quite easy with a toolpost-mounted grinder. However, I thought I would see how much I could improve one specimen and if it could "pass the test" afterwards by a combination of reaming and using a lapping compound (150-1200 grit) I had bought earlier from the Ukraine. In my eyes, this is much better than the Chinese stuff I first bought.. Anyway, I think it turned out quite well and was worth the trial effort. Speaking of Ukraine, I cannot leave the subject of the savage Russian military invasion.. I call on all good people to do what we can to stop the madness that is in motion, daily images of how cruel this brutal rape of an entire country is. I have customers and colleagues in both Russia and Ukraine and I know nobody wants this. It is all the work of the Putin terrorist mafia. The reign of this new Hitler and his gang of cheating cowards is surely at an end, but they will take so many innocent lives with them. I am sure justice will prevail in the end, and the heroic effort by the defenders of their homeland will not be for nothing, but we must not forget their ongoing struggle. They need aid in so many ways.. from humanitarian to weapons.. NOW! My hopes and prayers are with the Ukrainian people.
