Debabrata Biswas requires no introduction in the world of Rabindra Sangeet. The name Debabrata Biswas has almost become synonymous with the genre of Tagore Songs. He was born in the year 1911 in Barishal. This was the time King George V was visiting India for the Delhi Durbar. Thus he was nick named George. Debabrata Biswas was a new fresh wave which broke the orthodox rigidity of the so called Rabindra Sangeet puritans. His early renditions of Tagore Songs shows a brilliant full throat-ed robust vocal expression as well as a strict adherence to the traditional rules and norms written and written, which he broke on the later half of his life. Debabrata Biswas used western classical instruments like Cello and Violin along with the traditional instruments used in Rabindra Sangeet like Tabla and Esraaj. These brought in a new freshness to the world of Rabindra Sangeet.
