How to Make a Maple Leaf Quilt from Scraps, 3 HST Methods, Sewing Your Stash, Free Tutorial

Hello and Welcome to the Description Box for the Sparkling Leaves Quilt! I am not a pattern writer but I will do my best in providing as much detail as I can about how I created this quilt. As you have seen in the tutorial, the maple leaves are all made from scraps from the Triplet Triangles Quilts (I will leave a link below to that video) as well as a few from my Fall fabric stash. I used a Kona Navy for the background fabric, 5 1/2" Kona Navy border and Kona Navy for the binding. I used a navy Minky blanket for the backing. I freehand long arm quilted this with my 'quirky quilting 😉' wood grain design with variegated thread in Autumn colors. Each leaf used 4 HST's (Half Square Triangles), 3 pattern squares and 2 Navy background squares, for a total of 9 squares for each leaf. My largest leaf used 5" squares (there was just one full leaf at that size). The others ranged from 4 1/2" squares down to 2" squares. I was able to make a total of 41 Maple Leaves. I then combined the three smaller leaf sizes with each other to create the larger 14" x 14" blocks. Some had two, three or four leaves per block. I finished with a total of 20 - 14" x 14" squares that I laid out 4 Across by 5 Down. After adding a 5 1/2" Navy border, this quilt finished at approximately 65" x 78".
