Shady Grove

This is one of those songs that has a million versions. Mine owes a bit to here and a bit to there heard over the years. It's bitsa this and bitsa that. Played on my little home made banjo that I built as a copy of a civil war banjo I saw at Clifftop in the year 2000. That banjo was a fretless tackhead banjo and it was made to fit in a fiddle case. So is mine. I made mine with a neck whittled from Tasmanian celery top pine with a pocket knife and the pot from a tambourine. Luthier Paul Mineur did the hard work of fitting ebony pegs and fingerboard to the banjo amd a bridge made from a bit of old cherry tree. If I had a chance to do this album over again this is probably the track I'd rework first because I've heard some other very cool versions. Also although my vocal quality is probably not as good now as it was then my singing has become a bit wilyer.
