Trains on the Upper NS Lehigh Line Summer 2015

Norfolk Southern's former Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) trackage through Eastern PA does not see the traffic it used to during the mid-20th century. What was once a double track mainline, complete with multiple daily and trackage right trains has now dwindled to virtually nothing in the last twenty years. As of Summer 2016, one pair of daily manifests operate over the line between Allentown, PA and Buffalo, NY; a thrice weekly local between Allentown and Hazleton and a daily local between Allentown and Lehighton switches the various industries in Northampton, Siegfried and Palmerton. Occasionally, H&W movements carrying large heat exchangers to ports in New Jersey operate from Scranton to Allentown and then east to interchange with CSX. During the summer of 2015, after securing a job in Western Ohio, I went out to document this very scenic stretch of track as best I could with what little traffic operates before I moved, showcasing some of the popular spots found along this line. A few foreign units make an appearance, as does the Reading & Northern Lehigh Gorge train. So, sit back and enjoy the sights of Norfolk Southern's Lehigh Line in Eastern PA.
