It was released on July 18, 2008, by Warner Brothers Pictures, and was directed by Christopher Nolan from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Jonathan Nolan. The film is the sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins” and the second installment in The Dark Knight Trilogy. The ensemble cast includes Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman and more. “The Dark Knight” was a major commercial success breaking several box-office records and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2008 as well as the first superhero film to gross over $1 billion dollars. It was also a major critical success and the first comic-book film to receive major industry awards particularly due to Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker.
