In Saint Petersburg I feel at the home of my dream. Water, horizon, museums, palaces, art, music mingle there to forge a transcending state of mind. Dreary life can wait or come second. I went alone to Tikhvin cemetery, next to Alexander Nevsky monastery, to keep company to the fine people who keep me often company in my life. A honey-coloured, wonderful afternoon, silent and refreshing as friends should be. The monastery was built in 1710 by Peter the Great to honour the memory of Alexandr Nevsky, the victorious prince of Novgorod in the battle against the Swedish. The five-membered vocal ensemble Anima interprets the choral ´from above, the prophets` by composer, pianist, conductor Mily Balakirev, 1836/7-1910. Balakirev was quite religious, wrote various anthems and choral pieces, introduced the oriental idiom in russian music and searched his inspiration in russian folklore. Friend and protegé of Glinka, he was the teacher of Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin. Maitres and pupils, parents and children, they always end in the same yard :-) Enjoy.
