Markus Müller - Topological Quantum Error Correction: From Theoretical Concepts to Experiments

Seminar presented by Markus Müller on the 29th of April, 2021, within the IFIMAC+ICMM Seminar Series. Since 2019, Markus is a professor in Theoretical Quantum Technology, at the Institute for Quantum Information in RWTH Aachen University, and at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany. Before that he's had several appointments in the dept. of Physics of Swansea University, UK. And before, we had the privilege to have him in Spain as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he has collaborated, for instance, with Miguel Ángel Martín Delgado. He is devoted to Theoretical Quantum Physics, in the fields of Scalable Quantum Information Processing (QIP) and Quantum Simulation of Many- Body Quantum Physics, with a focus on implementations in Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Systems. Over the last years, the main focus of his research has been on topological quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing, and practical realizations of these concepts in collaboration with leading experimental and theoretical groups in the field. Even though he is very young, he's already had an impressive career with several high impact papers in Nature and Science, and in 2018 he was recognized with an ERC Starting grant for the exploration of “Open Quantum Neural Networks: from Fundamental Concepts to Implementations with Atoms and Photons”.
