The workshop introduces smart tools for literature reviews, such as a PRISMA framework and ASReview software which is a user-friendly app that uses machine learning for speeding up an abstract-screening phase of the PRISMA workflow. ASReview has been shown to be a more robust solution for relevant literature identification as compared to hand-picking of articles and it also effectively decreases the time to screen abstracts on average by 90%. The workshop also shows how to extract relevant knowledge from papers into tables and sample tables are provided. The workshop has its own webpage on my website, https://www.marceltkacik.me/teaching/... , where the installation guide is presented and all the literature review steps are summarized along with all other relevant materials. As a bonus, the workshop features a short presentation by Christian Elbaek, a Ph.D. candidate from Aarhus University, who presented his brand new metanalysis on material scarcity and unethical economic behavior which follows the PRISMA framework and uses sophisticated methods to e.g. check for homogeneity of samples used in the metaregression. As we are not quite always used to such a high level of robustness and sensitivity checks when reading research using metanalysis, I would encourage you to view his part, which takes a place in the middle of the workshop, as I consider it very educational and helpful. Specifically, I would recommend checking out how he applied this novel method for sensitivity analysis of publication bias in his own meta-analysis. Those of you who are more interested in doing a literature review on the development of methods rather than the empirical estimates (i.e. if you are doing method-centric rather than empirics-centric research) might benefit from the discussion at the end of the workshop where we also discuss backtracking of citations and creating citation maps.
