============== Description ============== This is a showcase of the open source toolchain I use for SIMPLE CNC projects. In this example I'm making a tool rack for my lathe. ============== Software ============== CAE LINUX I'm running my CAD/CAM software in a virtual box with CAELinux on top. Unfortunately this distro seems to not be under active development. The base system is pretty old (Kubuntu 12.04) but it packs a whole lot of useful engineering tools. http://caelinux.com/CMS/ FREECAD Freecad is a quite usable and rapidly improving CAD tool for personal application. The Path module is pretty new and therefore just has basic functionality’s. The same argument can be made for the Assembly module. http://www.freecadweb.org/ OpenSCAM The tool of choice for G-Code evaluation http://camotics.org/ ============== The CNC Machine ============== I use a low cost, DIY CNC router which is driven by LinuxCNC. LinuxCNC is a Debian distro with a realtime kernel and specific software for machinist.
