I have been teaching folks how to use Ethereal and Wireshark for many years. As soon as this feature became available in Wireshark, I have told students and co-workers that you have to leverage and create different Profiles. Profiles provide us a way to customize how Wireshark looks and behaves. Think of it as being able to tune Wireshark to a particular protocol or a particular work flow. For years folks downplayed this function while I was jumping up and down trying to get the Wireshark world to share and create shareable profiles. So I created the first repository for Profiles on the Web years ago. Today there have been 100's of thousands of downloads of profiles from the repository, and since I alone manage its content you can be comfortable in knowing these profiles are going to change your packet analysis immediately! Alright, enough said. Customizing Wireshark is a powerful feature that everyone who uses Wireshark should master.
