Sometimes, experts assign this raga to be a member of Kafi thaat. It is set to Tritaal or Tin-taal, which is a cycle of 16 beats, and is abundantly used in Hindustani classical music. (One who hasn’t loved, and hasn’t bowed his head in “sajda” to Allah, Hasn’t done anything worth living) Haajimadi ne sheher mein sajda diya to kya hua ? (One who goes on Hajj (traditional pilgrimage of muslims to Mecca) is known as Haji. ) Dil ka kufar toota nahi, haji bana to kya hua ? (One who is a Haji, but does not have a pure heart, is worthless) Kaazi kitaabon kholkar masla sunaane auron ko apna kalab padheya nahi kaazi baneya to kya hua ? (Kaazi is an Islamic priest of the Mosque, and traditionally, he is the one who often plays the role of a Judge, one who passes judgment, as per Allah, and as per the Islamic religious law) Jogi jugat jaane nahi kapda rangeya to kya hua? apna ghar rangeya nahi jogi baneya to kya hua ? (Traditionally, a Jogi, meaning an ascetic is dressed in saffron clothes, saffron is an important color in Hinduism) Charkha pukaare ruh hi ruh ruh pukaare tu hi tu aala ilm padheya nahi Bulla baneya to kya hua? (A charkha, is a wooden instrument used to spin thread from cotton. An intentional pun is used here as “ruh” means cotton as well as “spirit”, in Hindustani language) A Charkha spins thread, but the spirit calls the name of Allah. So, it doesn’t matter if I am famous as Bulle Shah, unless I have the ‘ilm’ or the desire to worship allah.
