Konrad Adenauer Stiftung: Public-private dialogue on green job creation in West Africa

ARE Energy Access Investment Forum 2024 The global shift towards renewable energy solutions anticipates the creation of 45 million direct jobs by 2050, promising a cleaner, more sustainable future while opening unparalleled employment prospects. Within this landscape, decentralised renewable energy (DRE) solutions play a pivotal role in driving green employment opportunities, especially in underserved rural areas. The creation of these new jobs will boost local socio-economic development and contribute to long term sustainability by fostering skills development across domestic workforces. Focusing on West Africa, where millions of people lack access to electricity, the session will focus on the current state of play, the challenges, and ways to boost green job creation in the region. The session is co-organised by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and will feature the outcomes of the report on green rural job creation, and open a discussion with relevant stakeholders on what the practical challenges and opportunities are to drive this forward. Panellists representing academia and the private sector will enrich the conversation by providing real case examples, raising practical issues and discussing needs, possible solutions, synergies between them and exchange on best practices from across the continent. Speakers: Julia von Franz - Policy & Advocacy Officer (Alliance for Rural Electrification) Monica Maduekwe - Resource Mobilisation and Project Development Officer (ECOWAS) Cyprian Okolo - Technical Sales Advisor, Western Africa (Fronius) Chantelle Moyo - Programme Manager (KAS) Kai Forster - Consultant (TEA-LP) Solomon Maren Bulus - Parliamentary Network (African Parliamentary Network on Climate Action)
