Train Cab Ride NL / Hoofddorp - Amsterdam Zuid - Hilversum - Utrecht / SLT Sprinter / Nov 2020

Hi everyone! A good day to you and welcome on board of the sprinter service from Hoofddorp to Utrecht. Today we get to travel with an SLT (Sprinter Light Train). Shunting: The journey starts at the shunting tracks at Hoofddorp Midden. From there we take the train to the platforms at Hoofddorp and change the train number from the shunting number to the passenger train number 5731. We have a very small delay on the start of the trip because we had to wait for another train that was keeping our platform occupied at Hoofddorp. Faulty Announcement System: With a minute delay we are cleared to start our journey with passengers on board. As you can hear, I will do all the station announcements. This is because there was a bug in the announcement software on the day of the recording. Sometimes it worked, but most of the time the system failed. Time to take over the computer and do the work ourselves. Soon after departure we get back on schedule. The tracks are wet, but not slippery between Hoofddorp and Weesp so until that point it's a very relaxing ride. Of course we will make stops on all stations on our way to Utrecht. Our route will bring us on the following stops: Hoofddorp, Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam Zuid, Amsterdam RAI, Duivendrecht, Diemen Zuid, Weesp, Naarden-Bussum (there's a spelling mistake in the video btw), Bussum Zuid, Hilversum Mediapark, Hilversum, Hilversum Sportpark, Hollandsche Rading, Utrecht Overvecht and the final stop Utrecht Centraal. Long Stopover: As soon as we arrive at Weesp we must wait for a few minutes before we can continue. This is because two intercity's must pass by. The first one is crossing our path towards Almere. the second one is going in the same direction as we do. As soon as the second intercity has cleared our path we can continue our journey. In the train schedule we have 3 minutes between trains so there's enough space to travel at full speed. Slippery Tracks: As we continue the journey we encounter slippery tracks on the line between Naarden-Bussum and Utrecht. The slippery tracks are caused by the trees that are standing nearby the tracks. The combination with the wet tracks and the crushed leaves makes the train slide over the tracks on hitting the brakes. And on departure it makes the wheel spin because they have no good grip on the tracks. This causes the train to have a longer braking distance and also it takes longer before the train is back on speed after a stop at a station. Slippery tracks must be reported to the train dispatcher so he can take safety precautions. To prevent trains from slipping and spinning we use Sandite on most of our tracks. The Dutch country land is flat and unfortunately almost none of the Dutch train have a sand installation on board (only TRAXX at NS). But this year ProRail and NS started a new project to prevent slippery tracks. More info about this project can be found here: https://nieuws.ns.nl/nieuwe-manier-va... In the end of the ride we arrive perfectly on time at Utrecht Centraal. I hope you enjoyed this sprinter ride over the monumental line between Hilversum and Utrecht. Did you see the overhead catenaries? They were the fist in the Netherlands when we started to electrify our trains. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments and I'll come back on your questions later. I hope you have a very good weekend and stay safe everyone.
