The battle was one of the bloodiest fought between British East India Company and Punjabi Army. Both armies held their positions at the end of the battle and both sides claimed victory. The battle was a strategic check to immediate British ambitions in India and a shock to British military prestige because it was the first time in sub_continent that British Army had to bear a heavy loss of it's soldiers in the shape of deaths , wounded and missings . In 1871 British occupants of Punjab raised a tomb commemorating the heroic role of the soldiers from both sides and a marble Cross close to it. The whole copmlex lies in the open without any guard or guide and presents a picture of criminal negligence on the part of concerned authorities A similar tomb was also raised in Sindh by Britishers commemorating the occupation of Sindh but after independence Sindh government has erected a monument of it's own depiciting the sentiments of the real sons of the land about the whole episode. Why such a parrarel monument can not be built in Punjab? It is high time that our rulers both from Punjab and the federation revise their approach towards the history and monuments of historical significance . The land of Chillianwala is a proof of tough resistance of Punjab against he foreign invasion and it would be a just demand to build a monument close to this tomb depicting the heroic struggle of the sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives to defend their sacred land.
