The Wars of the Roses brought great turbulence to England with the dynastic civil war between the House of York and the House of Lancaster causing chaos with the monarchy. The crown passed between the two houses a number of times, but following the Battle of Bosworth field, Henry Tudor's forces defeated Richard III. After Richard's bloody death, Henry was crowned King Henry VII by rights of conquest, and he married Elizabeth of York to unite the nation and to begin the Tudor dynasty. He needed to quickly restore order and stability especially with the monarchy, and he did this in a number of ways. Through taxes also, he managed to make the crown very wealthy, however this did make him at times unpopular with the people of England. Henry VII would go on to have a very famous son who became England's most infamous and notorious King. His younger son became King Henry VIII who is most famous for having 6 wives and executing many high profile individuals including 2 of his own wives Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard. However Henry VII's eldest son Prince Arthur died, and the heir apparent's death caused great upset with the King. Following this, Elizabeth of York died shortly after and Henry VII was distraught. He went downhill quickly and later became morbidly ill with consumption, which today would be described as tuberculosis.
