Kgale Hill hike - Gaborone Botswana

Located right in the city of Gaborone or Gabz as it has become known as. Kgale hill is a fairly tall hill reaching a summit of 1287m. It’s nicknamed “The sleeping Giant” and it is one of the best hiking spots in Botswana. Botswana is blessed to have such a beautiful hill. Right next to the hill is Game City shopping Mall, Commerce Park and various residential areas making the hill a very popular place for hiking and having a fitness challenge- get some blood pumping. The hill is open to the public and anyone can access it. It is generally safe but it is advisable to hike in groups (3 or more) as there has been a few incidents of thieves robbing hikers of their belongings. When preparing to go up the hill make sure to carry a good amount of water, some juice/ snack for energy boost and wear hiking clothes. The best times to hike is between morning and after 3pm when the sun begins to set. Botswana has one of the best looking sunsets and the view of it from the Kgale hill is amazing and generally all over Gaborone. The sunrays hit the hill and give it a mesmerizing golden look. Animal life on the hill consists of rock daisies or rock hyrax, a handful of baboons, dear sometimes, black eagles…etc. There is no dangerous animals. The hike if relatively easy, but afterwards you could really make use of a full meal of chicken, pork ribs and a salad on the side. The views are breath taking and the memories you’ll have of this place will put a smile on your face just as I can see the smile you have right now through the screen.
