Malot Fort and History Writing & Illustration:- YouTube Channel & Facebook Page The Dazzling Chakwal. The land of Chakwal in Pakistan contains eternal, unlimited treasures of archeology, various historical and ancient forts, remains of minarets and a great historical heritage. One of which is the fort of Malot and its associated monasteries. Most of the hills in the Salt Range of Punjab bear traces of forts and places of worship of Hindus. The local rulers considered themselves safe by building forts on top of the mountain. According to traditions, this 1100-year-old Malot fort was built in 980 AD by Raja Mal, the ancestor of Janjua nation. While its architectural style is the best masterpiece of combination of Kashmiri and Greek architecture. The architectural style of these malot temples bears the imprint of the Hindu royal rulers who ruled over North India for nearly 500 years, which are still present today in Kohistan e Namak. These monuments made of red and yellow stones are very attractive. Now the carved stones of the fort are scattered. Beauty has been created on all sides by carving red stones. At the four corners of the temples, minarets have been built by carving stones, idols have been made on the walls, and small idols of lions and other animals have been made under the idols. These are the best examples of the art of stone carving. Despite the passage of hundreds of years, its remains still mesmerize you with their beauty. This fort is of historical importance in many respects. According to some traditions, Zaheer ud din Babar defeated the army of Sikandar Shah Lodhi here, perhaps for this reason, this fort is mentioned in Zaheer ud din Babur's book Tuzak e Babri. Major General Sir Alexander Cunningham in his book Geological Survey of India has also mentioned this Malot fort. This whole area was the passage of Sikandar e azam, Taimur (taimoor) and other invaders. Al-Beroni / Alberoni in his book Al-Hind also mentions the ancient passages of Kalar Kahar. Raja Mal here was converted to Islam by Sultan Ghaznavi in his second invasion and named him Abdul Hakeem. Mallot Fort was discovered in 1870 during the Geological Survey of India. The 1100-year-old historic Malot fort and malot temple are located in Kohistan e Namak, Salt Range, about 20 km from Kallar kahar, between Kalar kahar to Choa Saidan Shah, on the Lahore Islamabad Motorway M-2, now in ruins. The Built of stone carved out of Kohistan salt, the fort is a reflection of the man's tenacity and strong body image. Being at the top of the mountain, the fort and temple of chakwal can be seen from the Motorway M2. The traces of this fort of Malot are no longer there. These temples are actually located in a fort, the remains of which have now disappeared and only these temples on the top of the mountain are in a slightly dilapidated condition. The temple has two separate buildings, one of which has a collapsed roof and only the walls remain, while the other building is in some perfect condition with the roof and dome. At a height of 3000 feet above the sea level, the temple buildings within the fort are up to 350 feet in height from which the view of the distant and surrounding area is breathtaking. This fort was surrounded by rocks on three sides due to which it was difficult to attack. Brahmin Bali, an important tribe of Hindus, took care of this temple until the establishment of Pakistan 1947, later they migrated to India. Now this historical fort & temple is maintained by the Punjab Tourism Department. The Punjab Tourism Department has also built a seating area for the tourists here, apart from this, the Punjab Tourism Department has also installed sign boards on the roads leading to this fort. The Malot fort and temple are part of the Tourism and Heritage Trail of Punjab. This will boost Punjab and Chakwal in terms of tourism, history and culture.
