4K Trams Lineside at The Newcastle Light Rail NSW Australia

English - 4K video coverage of the Newcastle Light Rail north of Sydney in New South Wales Australia. The Light Rail opened on 17th February 2019 after the heavy rail into Newcastle Station closed December 2014. The light rail effectively replaced the heavy rail stops at Wickham, Civic and Newcastle Stations. The light rail project was controversial from the start with many people still advocating for the heavy rail to be retained. After a few months of operation, people seem pretty happy with the new light rail with locals saying the tram is bringing more tourists and people in general to the middle of town. The Light Rail is 2.7km from end to end. CAF Urbos Trams run the service and there is a mix of street and reserve track running. The section of track between Honeysuckle and The Newcastle Interchange closely follows the original heavy rail alignment with the rest on the new street alignment along Hunter St and Scott St. Keolis Downer run the Light Rail and the depot is situated very close to The Newcastle Interchange. The only overhead wires are located in the Depot itself. The mainline is wire free and trams charge at each tram stop raising the pantograph towards a charging beam.
