What to expect during your MRI at Imaging Healthcare Specialists in San Diego After you arrive at one of our 11 San Deigo imaging centers, an Imaging Healthcare Specialists will check you in. You will be asked to fill out an MRI prescreening form. Please bring all implant cards to your appointment. After your form is reviewed, one of our MRI technicians will bring you back. You will have a locker to store your things and may be asked to change into a gown, depending on the body part being scanned. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with no metal, jewelry to your appointment. Once you have changed, a technologist will bring you to the MRI room and ask about your medical history and why they are doing the test. The more information they can give the radiologist the better. You will be positioned on the scanner. If your doctor has ordered contrast, you will have an IV inserted. It's very important to stay as still as possible during the scan. The MRI takes 15-45 minutes and headphones are provided. The radiology technologist will leave the room but can hear and see you at all times. After your scan is completed, you may resume normal activities. Your test will be loaded into your IHS portal within 24 hours.
