Zaddy, queer, guy next door. HIV status: undetectable. Six years ago, Richard Hutchinson was diagnosed with HIV. When he grew up, he thought being Black and gay meant an HIV diagnosis and a death sentence. One in two Black men is projected to contract HIV at some point in their lives, but Richard didn’t want to become a statistic. Brut reporter Jessey Dearing visited Atlanta, where Richard runs ‘He Is Valuable’, a nonprofit committed to changing the narrative around Black, queer men. By highlighting the sexuality of Black, queer men, he hopes to create a supportive community for them, and to celebrate their lives. “We’re more than just the numbers, the projections.
