Western Truck Center Delivers New Mack LR Electric Refuse Truck to City of Sacramento

On June 19, 2024, Western Truck Center delivered a new Mack LR Electric Refuse Truck to the City of Sacramento. Western Truck Center worked hand-in-hand with the City of Sacramento to provide an environmentally friendly option to ensure the City's solid waste division is deploying the latest Zero Emissions technology. The Mack LR Electric is the perfect truck for their operation. Alison Kerstetter, City of Sacramento Fleet Manager, stated, "The process for purchasing an electric refuse truck at the city started many years ago. We started to talk to Western Truck Center regarding a purchase of a Mack Electric Chassis, and it was a really easy process to go through with them. Because of the changing technology, the delivery took a little longer than expected. However, the truck is here and we are super happy to be piloting this in our solid waste and refuse division for recycling products." The Mack LR Electric delivers up to 100 on-the-job miles per charge and can collect 25,500 lbs of refuse on a 66,000 GVWR specification. This model is fully equipped with a DC fast-charging system capable of 150kWh charge rate, along with upgraded NMC lithium-ion batteries to deliver 42% more energy with no sacrifice to payload. This model LRE has three modes of regenerative braking that transfer kinetic energy into usable battery power. The Mack LR Electric has a fully integrated electric powertrain featuring 2 AC motors mated to a 2-speed Mack powershift transmission, delivering up to 4,051 lb.-ft of torque. Christopher Kerhulas, City of Sacramento Fleet Service, stated, "The City of Sacramento is very excited to get an electric garbage truck. It is the future of refuse.
