Breaking News | Election Commission has come down heavily on Congress after it expressed concerns over EVMs. The Election Commission (EC) rejected the Congress' claim that the electronic voting machines used in the Karnataka Assembly elections on May 10 had previously been deployed in South Africa, and urged the party to "publicly expose" the sources who spread such false information. The EC stated in a letter to Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala that it used new EVMs made by Electronics Corporation of India Limited for the elections in the southern state. The Congress voiced concerns and sought answers in a letter to the poll panel on May 8 regarding the "re-use" in the Karnataka election of EVMs previously used in South Africa, and that too without going through the procedure of revalidation and re-verification.
