The Silvretta Alps and the Rätikon Alps are in the south east corner of Switzerland, on the Austrian and Lichtenstein borders. Hiking in beautiful unspoilt scenery with a good selection of alpine huts. Kev Reynolds briefly describes the delights of this area, as he introduces his guidebook, 'Trekking in the Silvretta and Rätikon Alps', published by Cicerone. The guide describes three trekking routes in the regions: the Tour of the Silvretta, the Prattigauer Hohenweg and the Ratikon Hohenweg. The guidebook also includes 12 day routes hut-to-hut walks. The scenery is fantastic – these three great trekking routes take you among such peaks as Piz Buin, Piz Linard, Dreiländerspitz, Schesaplana, Sulzfluh and Drusenfluh, crossing the Vereina Pass, Furcletta, Pass Futschöl, Hochmaderer Joch, Gross Furgga, Verajöchl and Plasseggenpass, and visiting villages like Lavin, Guarda and St Antönien. The Silvretta has snowfields and glaciers, the Rätikon is limestone and almost dolomitic in grandeur.
