I have loved Japanese food ever since I was eight years old, so when I got the opportunity to spend twelve days in Japan back in January of 2019, I knew one of my top priorities on my trip would be to try as many incredible Japanese dishes as I could. The food in this country is next-level! They use simple, mostly fresh ingredients to create exquisite dishes with complex flavors and mind-blowing textures. Come along with me on my latest Japanese attraction and food adventure! My night began at the Roppongi Hills Observatory, which boasts some of the most epic views of Tokyo you’ll find anywhere! It’s 250 meters off the ground and is a great spot to take photographs of the skyline. I made my way up to the Sky Deck, which costs 500 Yen/$4.52 U.S. to visit. For your safety, you put all of your possessions in a locker, except for your camera, before you go up to the observation deck. As you guys know, I love observation decks, so I couldn’t wait to get to the top! After taking the elevator up, we emerged in the freezing cold outside at the very top. The wind was biting and it had to have been below zero Celsius, but, but it was worth it. My view of Tokyo was nothing short of spectacular. The entire city was lit up. It was a sea of never-ending lights! From the Sky Deck, I had a 360-degree view and could spot famous landmarks like the Tokyo Skytree. Side bar: if you come to Japan in the winter, be sure to pack a warm coat, a scarf, a hat, and some gloves! You’ll need them! After a while, the cold got to me, so I went back inside and I headed off to my next destination, Gonpachi Restaurant, which inspired the House of Blue Leaves fight scene in the movie Kill Bill! On the outside, the restaurant looks like a traditional Japanese fortress or castle with the restaurant standing on a stone base. It reminded me of Osaka Castle! Gonpachi Restaurant is also a celebrity hotspot that has been visited by stars like Kobe Bryant, the Kardashians, Kanye West, and Sylvester Stallone. Inside, it’s built like a traditional Japanese home! There’s a bar area, tables, as well as private booths. We went with their all-you-can-drink menu, which costs 2,678 Yen/$24.20 for 2 hours. You can drink non-stop. They have everything you could possibly want: beer, shochu, plum wine, red and white wine, sake, vodka, and much more! But first, we started with our 10-course dinner! First, I started with our appetizer, the fried yam in soy sauce. It was like a creamy and delicious croquette! Next up was the salmon sashimi, which was fresh and came with a nice sauce, herbs, and lettuce. In-between courses, we drank! My next dish was the shrimp fritter with fried rice noodles with chilies. It was delicious and tasted a little hot and had a honey-like sauce. It was like a fried shrimp mash! Before I went with the charbroiled oyster, I had some sake! And the charbroiled oyster was unreal! Next was three types of yakitori: beef, chicken, and tomatoes. The tomatoes were juicy and the ckicken was amazing with some wasabi and chilies! The wagyu beef was so juicy and was the best beef I’ve ever had in my life! I tried it with some wasabi and shoshito pepper and washed it down with more sake! From our table, we looked down at the rest of the restaurant and sang happy birthday to someone down on the main floor! Then it was time for the fried tofu, beef, and spinach. It was very nice! Then I moved on to the buckwheat soba noodles with a soy sauce base and sake. I mixed some wasabi in it and went to town on it. It was so delicious! The thin noodles with the soy sauce were outstanding. Next up was mochi with ice cream, which was heavenly. I loved the combination. There was a teriyaki glaze sauce that was really interesting. It was so good I had to finish it! And finally, I ended with some shochu, which is a barley-based drink that is really strong! As we left, I noticed that there were some celebrities in the house, including FloRida, who is from my hometown of Miami! After an awesome, drink-filled night, I had to say goodbye to my new friends. What a night! I hope you enjoyed my trip to the Roppongi Hills Observatory and my amazing 10-course dinner at Gonpachi!
