In this video, I will be talking about and discussing the 1994 live-action film called Street Fighter directed by Steven E. De Souza based on the hit video game franchise from Capcom. At this time in the early 1990s, Street Fighter II was a huge success pretty much all over the world. Wherever there was an arcade there was probably also a Street Fighter II coin-operated machine. The Street Fighter franchise took the world by storm basically and so this movie was made largely in response to that. The thing to remember is that video game movies were still relatively new and it was uncharted territory. Nowadays you have a lot of films based on video games. But Street Fighter was one of the earliest to do it and others followed suit like the Mortal Kombat trilogies. Although the movie was a box office hit when it was released, a lot of critics do not view this movie as favorably today. Personally, I enjoyed it but thought it could have been executed a lot better. It's tone was campy and fun but I felt like it would have been better if it were more serious.
