2024 certainly has been a whacky fluke season. The deep ocean bite was almost non-existent most of the year and the shallow bays in Long Island provided excellent fishing most of the year. This Skinner Package charter with Darren, Joe and Mark (and as the package name implies, John Skinner) proved to be no exception. I actually tried to cancel the trip but the clients insisted we fish, even if we couldn't get out into the ocean. With winds over 20 mph and gusts to 30, there was no chance we could get out in the ocean and Skinner suggested we go from Peconic Bay, through the Shinnecock Canal and into Shinnecock Bay. It was a smart move and allowed us to make lemonade out of lemons fishing in 5 to 12 feet of water.
