In today's episode of The Paint Show we'll be looking at Daniel Smith's Perylene Red! (On the next episode we'll finally take a break from Daniel Smith and look at other brands, promise!) ME AND THIS PAINT This is a tube I originally got from Daniel Smith's Primary set, alongside French Ultramarine and Hansa Yellow Medium. I didn't like the particular color combination, but I did like each color individually. And Perylene Red was my favorite! Also, REDS in general are Daniel Smith's forte, in my opinion. The name comes from Rylene. When more naphthanlene units are linked, it turns into Perylene, and can also turn to terrylene and quarterrylene (I assume those stand for 2, 3 and 4 units added, respectively). According to wiki, perylene is a hazardous pollutant, but according to HandPrint, all perylene pigments are non-toxic (and by the way - don't contain metal, which is another plus). (search the page for PR178) And also on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rylene_dye PAINT INFO Pigment: PR178 This pigment goes through a significant shift when drying. It will lighten slightly and loose about 20% of its saturation (this is all according to HandPrint. (I didn't notice such a significant difference). This is one of my favourite reds, and I find that I just LOVE perylene-based colors (for example Schmincke's Perylene Dark Red and Perylene Green).
